FHM magazine which is an acronym meaning For Him Magazine began publication in 1985 within the United Kingdom. Originally it as only called For Him but in 1994 when the magazine became circulated worldwide, it changed its title to FHM.
The magazine was created by Chris Astridge and was mainly a men fashion magazine with information and advertisements on the newest trends and styles. This is why during its first couple years of publication the magazine was mainly found in chic boutiques and high end barber shops.
In order to compete with rival magazines FHM started to change directions by adding sports articles and advertisements for things like cars and shaving cream. They also started to print on very high quality glossy paper and put in very technically sound photography. Because of these changes FHM soon became one of the highest selling magazines in the Untied Kingdom and was selling more the seven hundred thousand copies worldwide by 1999.
